Afrikaans

Born and bred near Cape Town in South Africa, my mother tongue is Afrikaans. Living in the UK, I don't get to speak Afrikaans as much as I would like. But I do so at every opportunity, and the dogs are trained in Afrikaans!

Having met many Saffas living abroad, I discovered I am not alone in wanting to keep Afrikaans alive, to express myself through untranslatable Afrikaans expressions like "gatvol", and enjoy pun-tastic Afrikaans humour. With my fellow South African expats in mind, I regularly launch a little collection of humorous, nostalgic and cute fashion, homeware, art and gifts around Afrikaans themes, like Boerseun and Melktert.
