Rise Like A Phoenix is the brainchild of South African-born Scottish artist-designer-maker and cancer survivor, Renate Kriegler Edwards.
Cancer survivors often rise like a phoenix in their new lives beyond cancer, but it takes a lot of courage, strength and energy. And the support of many people involved in their recovery. This creative group experience invites cancer patients to reflect on the support they receive(d) during their cancer diagnosis, treatment(s) and recovery, from medical professionals, family, friends, colleagues, etc. - considering what was good, what didn't help, what could have been better, and what would have really made a difference, and why. The collective creative outcome is a firebird made up of all participants' individually made 'feathers' - sharing their findings with everyone who needs and cares to learn form these.
